What is a Human Book?

A Human Book is a person who has a story to share with other participants in a Human Library project and therefore is someone who leads dream weaving activity at an event. Usually people who are Human Books have experienced trauma, social stigma, social exclusion, prejudice, discrimination, and they share their stories with others to promote understanding, conscious awareness, insight, empathy and community.

Human Book example

A Human Book is a participant of the Human Library project who has an interesting story to tell. While our Human Books are generally people who have been affected by social stigma, social exclusion, prejudice and discrimination, and some may come with 'labels', generally Human Books are people who are different in some way to most people and have an interesting story to tell or share.

Participation in a Human Library event in our community as a Human Book is entirely voluntary and is often done in exchange for access to community support, both within our community and from other organizations and community groups.
